Here are the brief points of the Access 4 Technology, Integrated Curriculum Progam. Links are provided to take you to more detailed information.
Effectively integrating technology into existing curriculum requires communication and cooperation of all participants in the process. To more clearly understand how these various components progress in a parallel manner with coordinated goals it may be helpful to view this as a three act play. |
The Story (The Goals)
The school district has already spent a great deal on computer hardware and software, hired technology specialists and created excitement for technology. Teachers have a variety of computer skills, mostly developed on their own, and are using some in the classroom. The teachers know how to present their subject material, are very competent professionals but are confused on how to best adapt some of their content to the changing world. Administrators are under pressure to meet standards and are faced with budget restraints while still trying to foster stress reduction and create a more opened school environment for the entire community. Access 4 Technology shows up and says they have some simple solutions; get everybody talking to each other and watch what happens.
The Players (The Participants)
The Administration - A serious, stern but benevolent and kind group consisting of The Superintendents, Principals and their assistants.
The Faculty - A diverse group of fun loving, dedicated educators who are currently feeling the stress of a changing educational system, increased demands to meet standard goals, accommodate more diverse student needs, comply with increased paperwork requirements and to continue to stay on the cutting edge of educational practice.
The Technology Staff - The newcomers to the school. Often misunderstood and sometimes mistrusted. They frequently experience the same difficulty as other new people to the school that speak another language (computereese) that few understand and tend to hang out with like minded individuals. They have been assigned to “make it all work” and frequently feel overwhelmed by the scope of the task.
The Students - Seen as a large chorus but made up entirely of individual stars; they are the true lead players.
The Community - The orchestra to our program. Spanning a whole range of voices and timbers, the community adds character and power. They are at once both the providers and recipients of the process.
